FAQ's
The questions and answers below might help you better understand Dynamic Reeds or search for other bassoon reeds. If you have any additional questions or, please contact me (Contact & Feedback), and I would be more than happy to answer them in this page.
How much of the bassoon reeds that Dynamic Reeds sells are actually made by Dynamic Reeds?
The entire reed is made by Dynamic Reeds (and Peter Prim exclusively)—from start to finish, from tube cane to finished reed. Dynamic Reeds has always made the entire reed. In the "big world" of commercial bassoon reeds, there are some reeds that are sold by manufacturers to retailers as finished or blank blanks to be re-sold with those retailers' own brand names. This is not what you get from Dynamic Reeds.
What do I do if there is a crack in my new Dynamic Reeds reed?
Contact Dynamic Reeds as soon as possible, and a new reed will be mailed to you. Furthermore, I apologize for the inconvenience, and I hope you will give me the opportunity to make it up to you. To reassure you, each reed is checked with a 100 W light (equivalent CF) for any sign of tip cracks before being sealed in the reed container.
The information about your reeds on your web site is interesting, but I am not convinced that I should spend the money to try a reed. Can you mention anything else to persuade me to buy one of your reeds?
No, and I completely respect your hesitation. With that being said, allow me to suggest that you ask suggestions from the bassoonist friends whom you respect and value/follow those suggestions over any and everything you see on the Internet! Word-of-mouth is by far the best and most reliable information.
I like your reeds, but they are not quite what I am looking for. Can you suggest other reeds that I might try, please?
Certainly. Everyone has a different preference, and if my reeds do not suit you, then I am happy to suggest something else. Of the nearly 40 commercial reeds that I have tried, below are my top picks starting with the best. A simple web search will quickly find retailers selling them.
1. Brundage Bassoon Reed made by David Brundage. There are a couple of places that sell his reeds.
2. Forrests Bassoon Reed. I have only tried the reed labeled simply "Forrests Bassoon Reed," although there are other “Forrests” labeled reeds. It is available exclusively from Forrests Music.
3. Fox Renard Bassoon Reed. While this reed has the Fox label on it, it is available from many retailers at a variety of prices.
You are sold out of reeds. When will more reeds be available?
It varies, but hopefully soon. If you are particularly eager for reeds now, please contact me and I will try even harder to finish the next batch of reeds sooner.
